Qatari - Morocco relations stronger because of King's visit

Qatari foreign minister, Sheikh Hamad Ben Jassem Ben Jaber Al-Thani, said the friendship visit paid by King Mohammed VI to Qatar this June 5-6 will have a direct impact on development and consolidation of relations between the two countries in various fields.
The Qatari official told MAP the visit reflects the good relations existing between the two Arab leaders, King Mohammed VI and Emir Hamad Ben Khalifa Al-Thani. He went on that the convergence of viewpoints between the Moroccan sovereign, who chairs Al-Quds Committee, and the Emir of Qatar, who is holding the chairmanship of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), is highly significant in this crucial period for the Arab and Islamic nation.
He said talks between the two heads of state covered various aspects of coordination on Arab and Islamic issues, particularly Palestine and peace in the Middle East.
Of bilateral relations, he said the two leaders stressed the need to consolidate cooperation and entrusted the foreign ministers of the two countries with following up activation of cooperation between the two Arab states. "The opening of a direct air-link between Morocco and Qatar is likely to encourage tourism and promote contacts between the two countries," he underscored.
Qatar Airways started as of May 31 servicing weekly flights between Doha and Casablanca, the aim being to convey two million passengers to Morocco annually.
The Qatari foreign minister stressed further that the King's visit marks a turning point on the path of a fruitful cooperation and voiced hope that initiatives adopted will be earnestly followed up.
On his country's stance regarding the proposed conference on the Middle East, the head of the Qatari diplomacy said Qatari authorities insist on a good preparation of the conference.
Meantime, the friendship visit paid by King Mohammed VI to Qatar this June 5-6 marks a leap forward in the quality of Moroccan-Qatari relations and in the consolidation of coordination on Arab and Islamic causes, said Moroccan minister of foreign affairs and cooperation, Mohamed Benaissa.
