Moussa receives EU Security Chief

Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa on Thursday received European Union Security Chief Javier Solana who is currently on a tour to the Middle East to stand on the next political step to deal with the situation in the region.

Following the talks, Moussa underlined the importance of continuing Arab-European consultations to be able to contain the deteriorated situation in the Palestinian territories, end the Israeli military operations and lift the siege imposed on the Palestinians.

On his part, Solana said the EU is planning to intensify consultations with the Arab side to achieve a development on the ground, noting that the EU wanted to be a part of the solution and to offer political and economic support.

The idea of holding an international conference to discuss the Middle East situation is being negotiated by the EU, the Arabs and other international sides interested in the regional situation to reach a joint view on the best way to take an effective political move.

On Arab-EU ties, Moussa said the issue would be part of the agenda of his European tour, due to start Thursday.
