Israel uses Palestinians' money to support its budget
Palestine-Israel, Economics, 5/31/2002
The Israeli government has decided to use USD 200 million of the sums of the Palestinian authority, frozen by it to support its budget.
The Israeli daily Maareve said on Thursday that the Israeli finance minister Selvan Sholoum decided to use one billion Israeli Shekel ( approximately USD 200 million) of the frozen sums of the Palestinian authority in the Israeli banks in order to finance sectors like education and properity damaged as a result of the prevailing security conditions.
Worthy mentioning that the reduction in the budget of the said sectors in Israel aimed at supporting the military budget because of the Israeli army operations in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The paper quoted the Israeli minister of finance as saying that the Israeli economy suffered losses estimated at USD 6.4 billion since the eruption of the Palestinian Intifada.
