Egypt-USA, Politics, 5/30/2002
Egypt's Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Mohamed Sayed Tantawi called upon all world officials, foremost of whom US President George W. Bush, to work arduously to help establish the Palestinian state as soon as possible.
He also, urged them to support President Mubarak in his call for achieving peace, stability, and security in the region and the world.
He said that Mubarak's call was the mirror of wisdom, courage and justice.
Replying a question on the possibility of holding Islamic conferences on the reality of Islam in America and Europe, Sheikh Tantawi replied that the next period would witness this.
He noted that Al-Azhar has been translating outlines on the Academy of Islamic Researches' conference entitled: "This is Islam" into different languages so as to be distributed to foreign embassies in Egypt and the Egyptian embassies abroad.
