Morocco's premier calls International Socialist to strongly condemn abuses against Palestinian people
Morocco-Palestine, Politics, 5/30/2002

Moroccan prime minister, Abderrahmane Youssoufi, vice-president of the International Socialist (IS), called the member parties to express strong condemnation of abuses against the Palestinian people's rights and dignity.

Speaking Tuesday at the opening in Casablanca of the IS-women bureau meeting, Youssoufi said "The IS must strongly express its anger and firm condemnation of the abuses against the rights and dignity of the Palestinian men and women, whose only fault is to defend their liberty and struggle to retrieve its occupied territories."

This meeting can not remain "indifferent to the tragedy that Palestinian women are living" he said.

IS vice-president, Nezha Chekrouni, voiced solidarity with the Palestinian people in their legitimate fight to set up an independent state, with Al Qods as a capital. She urged for an immediate end to massacres perpetrated against women and children in the West Bank and Gaza and to start a "genuine" process of peace and stability, insisting that the Palestinian delegation was unable to take part in the Casablanca meeting as a result of the absence of such a process.

The IS-women bureau meeting is held on the eve of the International association council which will convene in Casablanca May 31 through June 1, under the chairmanship of former Portuguese Premier Antonio Guterres.

The organization musters 141 political parties and social democrat, socialist and labour organizations.

Morocco had hosted several meetings of the Socialist International. But the council's meeting is the highest level encounter of the IS that Morocco ever hosted.

The situation in the Middle-east will top the council's agenda that also features other issues pertaining to peace and security in the world as well as to development.
