Morocco and Jordan kings call for Arab economic integration

King Mohammed VI of Morocco and King Abdallah of Jordan insisted on the need to move forward in the process to set up a free-trade space on the basis the Agadir declaration, said in Amman the official spokesman of the Royal Palace, Hassan Aourid.

The Agadir declaration, signed last year in Morocco between Morocco, Tunisia, Jordan and Egypt, provides for the creation of a free-trade zone between the four Arab Mediterranean countries. The move is open onto other Arab states.

The official spokesman on Tuesday said the two heads of state insisted on the need to re-activate mechanisms of economic and trade cooperation and, move forward in the process to set up a free-trade space on the basis of the Agadir declaration, to which king Mohammed VI had called with a view to establishing a free-trade zone between Mediterranean Arab countries.

King Mohammed VI and King Abdallah urged the two states' private sector to support this orientation, a prelude to the creation of an Arab joint market in accordance with the unanimity expressed at the Arab summit of Amman over a unified Arab economic partnership.

The two sovereigns also examined relations between the two states and praised the excellence of these relations at all levels and further hailed the outcome of the high joint commission in activating agreements concluded between the two governments in all fields, especially the cultural, technical and scientific realms.
