Enhancing Arab and African strategic interests is a must
Regional, Politics, 5/29/2002
In his speech at the Arab-African Cooperation Seminar that started yesterday at the Arab League, President Mubarak's Political Advisor Osama El-Baz said that there is no conflict between the Arab national concept and the ideological link with the African countries.
He pointed that such wrong idea was propagated by imperialism, in order to spread out its domination on the continent.
El-Baz also said that there are some objective factors that made us support and enhance the Arab-African relations, such as the strategic interests, foremost of which is the security interest. In fact we cannot differentiate security between the Arab security and the African security.
The Arab bloc cannot act alone, and has to cooperate with the African countries to form a bloc capable of cooperating with the great world blocs. El-Baz asserted that the African culture is deeply-rooted and originated from the ancient Egyptian culture.
Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa stressed in his speech, read out by Said Kamal, his assistant to Palestinian Affairs, that the Arab-African cooperation is a standard item on the agenda of the summit conferences, since Cairo Arab-African summit in 1977.
Former Yemeni President, and Chairman of the Seminar Ali Nasser Mohammed said that the Arab-African relations did not so far realize its targets, and pointed out that the Palestinian issue witnesses its most difficult stages. He pointed to the Israeli attempts to dominate the African continent through its cooperation with certain African countries.
