Iraq is resolved to cooperate with Morocco; agreement signed
Iraq-Morocco, Economics, 5/29/2002

Iraq is ready to step up cooperation ties with Morocco and set up new bases for its mechanisms in different fields, especially healthcare, Iraqi vice-president, Taha Yassine Ramadan, said Monday.

Speaking at a meeting with Moroccan minister of health, Thami El Khyari who ended this Tuesday a visit to Iraq, Ramadan said his country is working for an effective cooperation promotion with all the Arab states, and aspires to pan-Arab partnership and unification of ties.

El Khyari voiced Morocco's will to raise Morocco-Iraq cooperation up to the brotherly ties existing between the two countries.

The Moroccan minister also conferred Iraqi minister of health, Oumid Medhat Moubarak.

During the meeting, El Khyari underscored the longstanding ties biding king Mohammed VI and president Saddam Hussein, and voiced the kingdom's solidarity with the Iraqi people in the embargo imposed on it for more than 12 years, and the Moroccan support to the Iraqi people's struggle to alleviate sanctions.

The Moroccan official dedicated an exhibition of Moroccan medical products and equipment.

Khiyari signed minutes on the pledge with his Iraqi peer. The minutes stipulate that the two states will conduct a joint action in curative and preventive fields as well as in medicine-related sectors. The two sides also agreed to establish twinning relations between their respective hospital centres.

Under the minutes, priority will be given to the holding of joint missions of expertise exchange among physicians specializing in organ transplant and surgery.
