Bin Ali to consolidate rule of law, freedom, human rights, tolerance and solidarity

The Tunisian President Zein al-Abidin Bin Ali stressed that the referendum made to amend the constitution, as approved by the Tunisian, constitutes a new development on "the road to change in order to build the Republic of tomorrow with a constitution that copes with what the Tunisian people are known of in political, cultural, social and economic progress."

In a speech, Bin Ali congratulated the Tunisian people for this "historical achievement which enhance our confidence in the future and the opportunities of our success to attain a qualitative leap towards progress." He said that the coming phase is "an important period in the life of our society and will witness more richness in the political life and people's participation and will ensure wider fields for give-and-take for the components of the civil society, the political parties and the organizations and societies."

He added that this phase will "consolidate the rule of law and strengthen the protection of freedom and human rights and principles of tolerance and solidarity." Bin Ali also commended the political parties which took part in the campaign for the referendum especially the "democratic constitutional coalition." He also thanked "national organizations and societies and other social strata and all citizens, academic and intellectuals as well as media men who participated in consolidating awareness on the dimensions of constitutional reforms.
