Six Jordanian opposition parties are accused of receiving funds from abroad
Jordan, Politics, 5/29/2002
The Jordanian al-Ansar (partisans) party which was recently forced to leave the higher coordination committee of the Jordanian national parties accused six Jordanian opposition parties of receiving financing from abroad.
According to statements from the secretary general of al-Ansar party Muhammad Faisal al-Majali, these parties are the Progressive Arab Baath Party which gets its financing from Syria, the Socialist Arab Baath Party which is financed from Iraq, Hashad Party which is financed by the democratic front, the People's Unity Party financed from the people's front, the national movement front financed by Libya, and Hamat Party which is financed from Fatah.
Al-Majali asked the Jordanian government not to keep silence over this matter, accusing the parties of the higher coordination committee of being behind forcing him out because of the national stances of his party and because he believes that Jordan's interests is above any consideration. The secretary general of the Islamic Labor Front party Hamzeh Mansour replied to these accusations by expressing his regret for the release of these statements by al-Ansar party.
The secretary general of the democratic people's unity party Saeed Ziab said that the main reason behind forcing al-Ansar party out is the statements it issued concerning the people's demonstrations organized in support of the Palestinian Intifada and the different view point it holds for the view point held by the higher coordination committee adopted by al-Ansar party as well as the accusations launched by this party against the demonstrations as well as its absence from attending sessions of the coordination committee.
