Arab electricity ministers meet in Cairo

Works of the 15th meeting of the executive bureau of the council of the Arab ministers concerned with electricity and energy affairs in the Arab states members in the bureau started in Cairo yesterday.

The participants in the meeting discussed following up the completion of the electricity grid among the Arab states and following up the implementation of the Arab summit resolutions to this effect.

The bureau also reviewed the electricity grid project for each of Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan and Turkey as well as means of supporting electricity equipment industry for producing and transporting electricity in the Arab states, underlining the importance of following up the implementation of the Arab summit resolution to found the common Arab market for energy.

In its final report, the bureau said that electricity grid was made between Syria, Jordan and between Egypt and Jordan and it is expected to complete the electricity grid between Syria and Turkey during this year, 2002.

In its recommendations, the bureau called for financing two studies on the Arab electricity grid and the electricity grid of Sudan with the neighboring Arab states. It also decided to hold the fourth exhibition for electricity equipment industry in the Arab states in the Tunisian capital, Tunis.
