Lebanon regrets Annan's considering Shebaa farms as Syrians
Lebanon, Politics, 5/29/2002
In its Tuesday's issue, the Lebanese daily al-Nahar said that there is Lebanese regret over the persistence of the UN secretary general Kofi Annan to consider the occupied Shebaa Farms as Syrians.
The paper quoted Lebanese ministerial sources as saying that the description of the area monitored by UNDOF in the Golan as being calm in general during the six past month with the exception of the under-dispute Shebaa farms on the Lebanese borders as just to remind that the Shebaa farms are Syrian and not Lebanese territories and therefore Annan would have taken a position not only against Lebanon but also against the Arab states which support the Lebanese position -- which can be shortly put and shorten in a phrase -- that resistance continues to liberate the farms as far as they are occupied.
The paper added that the Lebanese position to this effect wins a Syrian and Arab support, and understanding from the side of Russia and Europe calling for liberating the Shebaa farms by diplomatic means.
