Fighting erupted in Somalia
Somalia, Politics, 5/29/2002

Nine persons were killed at least on Tuesday morning in the northern part of Makadishu during battles between the Somali provisional government forces and one of the tribes.

Eye- witnesses said that battles erupted between the men of Mousa Souadi Yahalou, the leader of the alliance for the salvation of Somalia and the government's forces near the general headquarters of the movement in which mortars and anti- tank and armored vehicles shells were used.

Yahalou belongs to the Somali council for reconciliation which includes leaders standing against the provisional government. The council is presided by Hussein Muhammad Aided and is supported by Ethiopia.
