Sharm Al Sheikh gets prestigious prize

During a recent meeting, the International Federation for Journalists and Travel Writers (FIJET) chose the Egyptian Resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh to receive its annual prize.
The gesture reflects the federation's appreciation of the town as a venue of peace conferences and its thriving tourism development.
The federation's Golden Apple Prize, which symbolizes growth, was awarded to the Egyptian town upon a suggestion from Mr. Salah Attia, a member of the FIJET.
The prize will be presented at a major ceremony to be attended by the federation's board s members.
Earlier recipients of the prize include top tourist destinations such as Moscow, Paris and Havana.
It was given to Egypt in 1994 in recognition of its tourism development projects in Sinai and the Red Sea.
