Egypt goes on implementing economic reform program
Egypt, Economics, 5/28/2002

Egyptian Prime Minister Atef Ebeid said yesterday that the government is finally committed to implement its economic and financial reform program in a way that will lead to increasing the state's revenues.

Ebeid stressed that peace and justice are essential for interior and regional stability and are two effective factors in the development and construction process.

Ebeid spoke at the inauguration of a conference entitled "Challenges Facing the Egyptian Economy".

The PM told the conference (organized by the Economic Studies and Research Centre at Cairo University, in co-operation with USAID) that financial reform towards free trade is an ongoing process.

He said that amendments to customs laws will allow the import of machinery to benefit industrial modernization.

The director of USAID Willard Pearson praised Egypt's economic progress.

The two-day conference will discuss the strategic choices and challenges facing the Egyptian economy, trade laws, financial policies, trade reform, and human resource development.
