King Mohammed chairs religious ceremony on prophet's birthday
Morocco, Religion, 5/27/2002
Morocco's King Mohammed VI, Amir Al Mouminine (Commander of the faithful), accompanied by Prince Moulay Rachid and Prince Moulay Ismail, chaired this past Friday at the Hassan II Grand mosque in Casablanca a religious ceremony marking Aid Al-Mawlid (the prophet's birthday).
The religious ceremony was marked by the reading out of panegyrics of the Prophet Sida Mohammed, Peace be Upon Him and verses of the Koran.
Following the ceremony, the king handed to Professor Ahmed Cherkaoui Ikbal the Mohammed VI prize of Islamic thought and studies in recognition for his valuable services rendered to Islamic research and studies and his precious books on religious and linguistic sciences. The researcher offered the sovereign a collection of his books.
The sovereign was also greeted by Habib Boulares (Tunisia) on the occasion of the start of his mandate as secretary general of the Arab Maghreb Union (UMA).
