Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 5/27/2002
Morocco's King Mohammed VI, who was accompanied by Prince Moulay Rachid, received in Casablanca this past Friday night Algerian foreign minister, Abdelaziz Belkhadem, who handed to the sovereign a message from Algerian president, Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
The audience took place in the Casablanca Great mosque after a religious ceremony held on the occasion of Aid Al-Mawlid (Prophet's birthday) in the presence of Moroccan minister of foreign affairs and cooperation, Mohamed Benaissa.
The head of the Algerian diplomacy had said upon arrival on the same day in Casablanca coming from Mauritania, his visit to Morocco is part of consolidation of ties between the two sister states and continuation of efforts for the construction of the Arab Maghreb Union (UMA).
Algeria and Morocco are, together with Libya, Mauritania and Tunisia, members of the UMA, a grouping set up in 1989 in Marrakesh.
