Al-Assad stresses implementation of all existing UN resolutions first; meets al-Taher, Chile delegation

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad on Sunday received the chairman of the Arab Parliamentary Union Ahmad Ibrahim al-Taher, who is also the chairman of the Sudanese national council and members of the accompanying delegation.
The meeting was attended by the speaker of the Syrian Parliament Abdul Qader Qaddoura and the secretary of the Arab Parliamentary Union Nour Eddine Bushkouj.
Discussions dealt with the activity of the Arab Parliamentary Union and the need of revitalizing it on the Arab and international arenas with the objective of strengthening Arab solidarity.
Discussions also dealt with the need of coordinating parliamentary stances towards issues debated on the Arab and international arenas especially issues of concern to the Arab nation.
On Sunday afternoon, al-Assad in Damascus received the delegation representing the parties of the ruling coalition in Chile.
The meeting was attended by the assistant secretary general of the Baath party Abdullah al-Ahmar.
Discussions dealt with prospects of cooperation between Syria and Chile and means of developing it in all fields.
The president stressed that the visit of the delegation is considered an important start to strengthen relations between the two countries.
The president reviewed current steps in Syria in the domain of renovation and development. Al-Assad indicated the issue of the Arab - Israeli conflict and explained Syria's eagerness to maintain peace since the launching of the Madrid peace conference, on the ground that this peace should be based on the ground that it is fair, built on UN Security Council and UN General Assembly resolutions, known to all and that there are no conditions except for the implementation of these resolutions.
The visiting delegation expressed admiration over the progress attained in Syria in all walks of life. Members of the delegation voiced solidarity with the just Arab causes.
They stressed they greatly benefited from information they received during their meetings in Syria, stressing the importance of strengthening relations between the parties they represent and the Baath party.
