UAE efforts to dismantle mines from Lebanon

On Tuesday, May 28th, the second phase of the landmine dismantling project in south Lebanon will start. It is carried out by the United Arab Emirates under the name "UAE solidarity."

A press statement issued by the UN said that the inauguration of the second phase of the project will be made within an official celebrations to be attended by United Arab Emirates minister of information and culture Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed al-Nahyan, the Lebanese defense minister Khalil Hrawi, the director of the Lebanese national office for dismantling landmines George Masaad, the UN Steven De Mistora, the US ambassador to Lebanon Vincent Battle, several diplomats accredited to lebanon and members of the UN team in support of dismantling landmines in Lebanon.

During the meeting which will be held at the headquarters of coordinating landmines activities (former UNIFIL headquarters) in Tyre, south Lebanon a landmine dismantling position will be visited.

The statement said that the second phase of official launching of the project which will be called "UAE solidarity" constitutes a manifestation to the objective of dismantling landmines stated in 2001 in a workshop attended by officials representing the supervising sides.
