Junblat and the relation with Syria
Lebanon-Syria, Politics, 5/25/2002

The chairman of the Lebanese Socialist Progressive Party in Lebanon Walid Junblat said that when he feels a danger threatening the Arab's own existence and Lebanon and Syria, he will side with Syria.

In the program under the name "uncensored dialogue" with excerpts of it broadcast by the Monte Carlo radio on Friday, Junblat added that Lebanon stood with Syria in 1958 and 1982. He said that Lebanon had an alliance with Syria in 1977 to challenge Israel and the conspiracies of partition.

He indicated that his former statements at the Lebanese cabinet were not intended to challenge Syria, rather to correct the relations and to correct the Lebanese - Syrian national, economic, political and security partnership.

Junblat also indicated in his statement to the visit made by President Bashar al-Assad to Lebanon. He explained that "in his visit ( to Lebanon) President al-Assad gave us excellent thoughts on how to develop the economy and agriculture and to improve Syrian- Lebanese relations in all fields."

Junblat also called for revitalizing the already existing Lebanese- Syrian higher council and to work for providing it with agricultural and economic specialists.
