Egypt-Regional, Politics, 5/24/2002

A source close to the Egyptian Presidency said on Thursday that President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt will on June 8 head for Washington to hold talks with the US President George Bush on the ME region. The source added that Mubarak will meet during this visit with the US Vice President Dick Cheney, the secretary of state Colin Powell and with the US President's adviser for national security affairs Condaleeza Rice.

On the other hand, the King of Bahrain Sheikh Hamad Bin Issa al-Khaleifa discussed with Mubarak at Sharm El- Sheikh resort "the development of conditions" in the region within the context of the Syrian, Saudi and Egyptian "tripartite summit."

The Egyptian minister of information Safwat al-Sharif said the two sides "reviewed results of the current contacts and efforts with the peace process sides" and the "two leaders reiterated the need of having a common Arab vision towards the future of the peace process in the context of honoring international legitimacy and resolutions issued by the UN security council and the land for peace formula."
