Al-Shara opens Syria's embassy in Stockholm, meets officials

Syria's deputy premier and foreign minister continued his tour on several Scandinavian states. he arrived on Thursday in Stockholm, his third station, coming from Norway.

Sweden's prime minister on Thursday received al-Shara who conveyed to him a message from President Bashar al-Assad relating to the developments of conditions in the region, bilateral relations and means of strengthening them in all fields.

On Thursday, al-Shara and members of the accompanying delegation held talks with the Swedish foreign minister Mrs. Anna Linda which centered on the deteriorated conditions in the Middle East region. Al-Shara expressed his appreciation over Sweden's positive stances towards the catastrophic conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories.

View points were identical on the need of Israel's withdrawal from the occupied Arab lands until the June 4, 1967 border lines and the foundation of a Palestinian state, "a state which is not chopped-up as Israel is seeking."

Al-Shara stressed that the EU in general and Sweden in particular should play a leading role in deterring the Israeli stubborn policy which refuses to end the occupation and escape the implementation of the UN security council provided for sending a fact finding commission to Jenin camp.

Al-Shara said that the unarmed Palestinians are facing on their occupied territories the Israeli army which is equipped with most advanced military arsenal in the world.

As for the "martyrdom" operations carried out by the Palestinians, al-Shara said that Israel's existence in the occupied territories is condemned and cannot be considered under any condition as a sort of self- defense.

The Swedish FM, held a work lunch for al-Shara and members of the accompanying delegation during which the two sides completed their talks on strengthening bilateral relations between Syria and Sweden in various areas.

On Thursday afternoon al- Shara inaugurated the Syrian embassy in Stockholm. The ceremony held for that purpose was attended by the Swedish FM and high ranking FM officials, the governor of Stockholm, several members of the Swiss parliament, Arab ambassadors accredited in Stockholm; heads of Muslim and Christian Syrian communities in Sweden and crowded number of Arab and Syrian emigrants in Sweden.

The Swedish minister expressed her hope that the inauguration of the Syrian embassy in Sweden would promote bilateral relations.

Then al-Shara met at the headquarters of the embassy with the Arab ambassadors accredited in Sweden and briefed them with the results of his talks with high ranking Swedish officials.

Al-Shara also met with the representatives of the Syrian community in Sweden who expressed commitment to their homeland and to defending the just Arab causes.
