Syria: reducing Kerosene price
Syria, Economics, 5/24/2002
Following noon prayers which preceded the celebration of "prophet Muhammad's birthday" celebrations at the Damascus al-Rawda palace, a crowd of Syrian citizens met with President Bashar al-Assad at the mosque, thanking him for the recent increase in wages and salaries of Syrian state employees.
As the president also understood that there are complaints over the recent increase in Kerosene prices, he immediately instructed the prime minister Muhammad Mustafa Miro to reconsider the new prices and alleviate the higher living conditions inflicted as a result of increasing Kerosene prices.
In a very quick response, the government on Thursday materialized the President's instruction and Kerosene's prices were reduced from 165 Syrian pounds to 140 Syrian pounds per average small container ( 20 liters ).
