The four- member gas meeting may be held in Amman
Regional-Jordan, Economics, 5/24/2002
The Jordanian minister of energy Muhammad al-Batayneh said on Wednesday that ministers of oil and energy in Jordan, Syria, Egypt and Lebanon will meet shortly in Amman to discuss an agreement to erect a regional gas pipeline at a cost of $ 700 million.
Al-Batayneh said in a statement to International Oil Daily bulletin which is issued in London that the meeting "will concentrate on founding a new company which will be assigned to supervise the operations in all works pertinent to installing the pipelines and coordinating the flow of gas from Egypt to Jordan, Syria and Lebanon."
He added that this meeting might be held this week, but the bulletin quoted an official Egyptian source, whose identity was not revealed, that the meeting might be postponed until the beginning of June.
