Syria, Morocco sign enforcement program of environment agreement
Syria-Morocco, Environment, 5/23/2002
Morocco and Syria signed in Damascus the enforcement program of an environment agreement, on the sidelines of the 28th meeting of the executive committee of Arab environment ministers, held May 21-23.
The program was signed Tuesday by Moroccan minister of territory planning, urbanism, housing and environment, Mohammed El Yazghi, and Syrian state ministry of environment affairs, Adnane Khozam.
The program provides for the development of the two states' capacities and the conducting of joint projects to struggle against desertification, climate change, and industrial pollution, and protect biological diversity.
El Yazghi underscored the importance of the agreement, signed last October in the framework of the high joint commission, which was set up after the visit Syrian president, Bachar El Assad, paid to Morocco in April 2001.
The Syrian minister lauded the expansion of the fields of cooperation between the two countries.
