Germany: Qarisli resigns from the liberal party
Regional-Germany, Politics, 5/23/2002
Member of the German Liberal part Jamal Qarisli, who is of a Syrian origin, submitted his resignation from the party following a controversy raised by statements he had made in which he accused the Israeli army of "using Nazi methods" in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Despite his resignation Qarisli will continue to be a member without a post in the parliamentary group of the party in the regional parliamentary council of the northern Renanian and Stafalia district, according to chairman of the party's regional branch in this district Juergen Moellemann in a press conference he had held in Dosoldov.
Moellemann himself is being exposed to criticism by the Jewish community and part of the German political class because of his stand which frankly supports Qarisli and his criticism for the policy pursued by the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon and the central council of Germany's Jews.
Qarisli has recently resigned from the Greens Party to which belongs the German foreign minister Yushka Fischer in protest on the Fischer's policy in his relation to Israel.
Qarisli had also joined the Liberal party. A matter which raised the hatred of the lobby supporting Israel inside the party.
