Elections in Comoros
Comoros, Politics, 5/21/2002
The electoral national committee in Moroni said that the non- official and almost final results indicate that the opposition candidate Abdo Soli al-Bak won the presidential elections in the greater Comoros island with 60.08% of the votes.
The results of selecting votes in ten ballot boxes indicate that al-Bak won against his rival Bakri Abdullah Boina --the ruler of the island ( Morono) whose term of office has expired -- where he received 39.92% of the votes.
Worthy mentioning that the presidential voting in the greater Comoros island constitutes the last phase of an operation which aims at getting Comoros out of the crisis which erupted after Anjoine Island declared independence in August, 1997.
