On the allocation of Sudan's natural resources
Sudan, Politics, 5/21/2002
The Sudanese foreign minister Mustafa Othman Ismael has stressed Sudan's categorical rejection to share oil resources with the rebel movement led by John Garang, adding that oil and gold and other minerals are national resources for all the people of Sudan and its sharing and distribution are governed by the constitution and the law.
In a statement to the Sudanese daily Alwan ( colors) issued on Monday in Khartoum, Ismael said that the government is concerned with the poorest areas that are most affected by war and natural catastrophe.
The Sudanese foreign minister ruled out sharing of oil with the rebel movement. He said that there is a great distinction between the rebel movement and the citizens of southern Sudan, noting that any talk about a just division for the wealth is made in the framework of halting war and establishing peace in the country.
