Sharm El-Sheikh receives UNESCO peace trophy

The Red Sea resort of Sharm El-Sheikh received the UNESCO trophy for peace cities for 2000/2001 in a celebration held at Al-Qana Mosque in Marrakesh. Sharm El-Sheikh was selected for its huge tourist and developmental potentials and its connection with the peace issues land settlement of international disputes.
UNESCO Director Koichiro Matsura hailed the city's role in establishment of a demographic community in a short time.
