Mrs. Mubarak attends children of special needs charity in London
Egypt-UK, Culture, 5/20/2002
Egypt's First Lady Suzanne Mubarak attended on Saturday night a charity tribute held by the Egyptian Embassy in London whose proceeds will go to the Egyptian-British association for children of special needs.
The returns of this year's tribute will be allocated to the treatment of Egyptian children who suffer from cancer as well as Palestinian children.
The celebration was attended by a number of British celebrities, including Cherrie Blair, wife of Prime Minister Tony Blair, and a number of prominent Arab and Egyptian businessmen and media men.
Mrs. Mubarak said: "It is truly a pleasure to join you once again in support of the British-Egyptian foundation for Children with special needs to celebrate the strong and deep-rooted Egyptian-British bond."
"Over the past three years, the foundation was able to raise adequate funds to refurbish and equip five schools for children with Mental and Physical Disabilities, as well as furnishing the Child Cancer Centre in Cairo with the required medications and equipment."
"Added gratitude is due for the Foundation's continued commitment to combating Child Cancer.
Concerted efforts are currently focusing on an extensive programme aimed at the prevention and treatment of this malicious disease, which constitutes a major obstacle to development in Egypt and elsewhere."
"I would also like to commend the joint decision to donate part of this year's pledged contributions to Palestinian children, a token support to humanitarian efforts intending to alleviate their dire conditions."
