Woman's political right in the Arab states
Regional, Politics, 5/20/2002
Arab press circles see that at the time when women in the Arab states have got their political right since more than half a century, almost in 18 Arab states, regardless to the success or failure of the experience in certain Arab states, however, women do not feel frustrated nor unpleased because they are deprived of their rights.
Women in Djibouti received this right in 1946, and offered the right to elections in 1986, however, she did not succeed so far to reach the parliament. The Egyptian woman was the first among her Arab sisters to join the elections to the people's assembly in 1957 but she only entered the parliament in 1991. The same is also for the Syrian woman ho got her right in 1953 but only joined the People's Assembly in 1972.
After that Arab women involved themselves in this experience in Comoros, Tunisia, Mauritania, Algeria, Morocco., Sudan, Libya, Yemen, Iraq, Jordan and Oman. Lastly this very right obtained by the Qatari women in the municipal council elections and the the woman in Bahrain who made use of the recent constitutional amendment in the Kingdom which offered her the right to nominate herself to be elected and also to elect, so as she has become a real partner in the political life.
Meanwhile, the woman in Kuwait still relentlessly seek to get her political right to join the Ummah Council ( the parliament) despite the high positions she acquires, especially as the Kuwaiti constitution does not make a distinction between a man and a woman.
