The EU settled the question of exiled Palestinians
Palestine-European Union, Politics, 5/20/2002
The Spanish Presidency of the European Union stressed on Sunday that an agreement was reached between six European states to distribute the Palestinians who were exiled by Israel, noting that the name of "Finland" was mentioned mistakenly.
The Spokesman for the Spanish foreign ministry Alberto Atha said that the agreement which was concluded on Saturday evening between the foreign ministers of the EU 15 member states stated that each of Spain and Italy will receive three Palestinians, while each of Greece and Ireland will receive two and one for Portugal, Belgium and Cyprus.
News reports said that this agreement was reached following telephone calls made by the foreign ministers of the EU member states and thanks to the special mediation made by the EU ME special envoy Miguel Moratinos.
The Israeli occupation forces exiled those Palestinians outside the occupied Palestinian territories as prior precondition to lift the Israeli military siege at the church of Nativity in Bethlehem in the West Bank. The siege lasted for 38 days.
