Mrs. Mubarak visits British library
Egypt-UK, Local, 5/17/2002

Egypt's First Lady Suzanne Mubarak toured the British Library in London on Wednesday as part of a visit to Britain.

Mrs. Mubarak inspected the northern west pavilion of the library which treasures one of the oldest copies of the Holy Qur'an. She also checked copies of the early works by Shakespeare.

Mrs. Mubarak was received upon arrival by the British Minister for arts, culture and heritage as well as a number of the library officials. Mrs. Mubarak's visit is the second of its kind since 1991.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Mubarak expressed her desire in transferring the library's expertise in teaching children to Egypt.

She is due to speak today before the International Arab Forum of women on the role of women in Egypt and the Arab states.

Mrs. Mubarak will also review the Egyptian move in the social work field to realise children rights and women progress.

British Minister of Art voiced hope to increase cooperation between British and Alexandria libraries. The British Minister hailed Mrs. Mubarak's keenness on encouraging reading specially among children in Egypt.
