Amended UN sanctions against Iraq for review in six month
Iraq, Politics, 5/17/2002

Iraq has announced it accepts to deal with the recent resolution of the UN Security Council which made changes to the sanctions mechanism imposed on it. Iraq has to deal with these amended sanctions, as it had to with the old sanctions.

The Iraqi minister of information Muhammad Saeed al-Sahaf said that "Iraq will deal with UN Security Council resolution 1409 taken by the council in regard to renewing work according to the memorandum of understanding for an additional 6 months." Al-Sahaf was talking following a joint meeting for the Council Of the Revolution's leadership and Iraq's leadership for the Baath Arab Socialist Party, led by the Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

In a statement issued in conclusion of the meeting, Iraq renewed its request to end the sanctions imposed on it and to stop the sorties carried out by the American and British warplanes over the so-called "no-fly zones" in the southern and northern parts of Iraq.
