Egypt, Economics, 5/16/2002

Egyptian Prime Minister Atef Ebeid Tuesday discussed with members of the People's Assembly and Shura Council who represent Beni Suef, Upper Egypt, governorate rates of execution of development and services projects in the governorate.

The meeting also discussed measures to complete projects being carried out in the governorate, particularly health and education projects.

Arrangements for a planned visit by the Prime Minister to Beni Suef governorate were also discussed.

Moreover, Ebeid Tuesday presided over a meeting at which investments of the Ministry of Tourism were discussed.

The meeting discussed investments of the Ministry of Tourism which represent 7 percent of the State's plan. Egypt's tourism income in fiscal year 2000/2001 amounted to about 4.3 billion pounds-before the September 11 events.

Efforts are being made to deal with the after effects of the September events.

Furthermore Ebeid late Tuesday presided over a ministerial education development committee meeting.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Education, Minister of Higher Education, president of Cairo University, and heads of education committees of the People's Assembly and the Shura Council.

An official source said the committee dwelt on a phased-in programme on education development and means to qualify graduates and train teachers and members of the administrative body on the most up-to-date administration methods.

The next meeting will address development of higher education, the official added.
