Morocco renews support for proposed international peace conference
Morocco-Regional, Politics, 5/16/2002

Morocco's King Mohammed VI on Tuesday renewed Morocco's backing to the proposed international conference on peace in the Middle-East.

The king made the statement at an official dinner hosted in honor of Italy's President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, who started Tuesday an official visit to Morocco.

King Mohammed VI reiterated Morocco's "determination to continue to work in conjunction with our Arab and Muslim brothers and our international partners, in an effort to build in the Middle East a fair and lasting peace which caters to the legitimate right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state, with Al-Quds Al Shareef as its capital, in accordance with the resolutions of international legality, and with the Arab Peace Plan adopted at the Beirut Summit, as well as with the commitments entered into by the parties concerned and which provide for all the peoples in the region to live in peace and concord."

The king warned that the tragic situation, prevailing in the Middle East, poses a serious threat to security and stability in the Mediterranean region, and in the world at large.

King Mohammed VI, Chairman of Al Quds Committee, commended the fair stance taken by the Italian President and by various Italian institutions, with respect to the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people and their legitimate leadership.
