Gulf states consultation summit on May 26th
Gulf-Saudi Arabia, Politics, 5/16/2002

The secretary general of the Gulf Cooperation Council states (GCC) Abdul Rahman al-Ateyah on Wednesday said that the council will hold its biannual summit on May 26 in Jeddah to the West of Saudi Arabia to discuss in particular the recent developments took place in the Palestinian territories.

To this effect, an official at the GCC explained that the summit will not be limited to political files, rather will cover economic issues especially customs union, and the GCC united currency.

During their recent summit in December 2001, the GCC leaders decided to found a customs federation by the fall of 2003 to be followed after 7 years with the united currency, in the context of attempts made to maintain economic integration ever sought by the GCC member states since 1981.
