Relations atmosphere appropriate for new surge in Egyptian-Sudanese relations

Sudanese President Omar el Bashir's visit to Egypt today, and his talks with President Hosni Mubarak will mainly focus on ways to activate bilateral relations, Sudanese official told Cairo Radio on Wednesday.

Sudanese Foreign Minister Mostafa Othman Ismail underscored the need for Arab leaders to exchange views on issues of mutual interest in order to come out with a unified stance.

Beirut summit reached a concerted attitute and an Arab plan to achieve peace in the region, he said asserting the importance of stepping up political action mechanisms in the service of Arab causes.

The Sudanese official referred in this respect to Egypt's running efforts to halt violence in the occupied Palestinian territories and to bring about a comprehensive peace as well as international endeavours being witnessed by the Egyptian capital in this connection.

President Bashir will be carrying three main files which he will probe with Presidnet Mubarak on bilateral relations, national and regional issues and peace in Sudan, he added.

Climate is conducive now to a new surge in relations between Khartoum and Cairo especially in investment and trade exchange domains. Egypt and Sudan have signed more than 20 agreements, some of them have not yet been implemented, he said.

In an interview today with Sawt al Arab Radio on the occasion of Bashir's visit to Egypt, Sudanese Information Minister Mahdi Ibrahim , official spokesman of the Sudanese government, voiced Khartoum's appreciation for Egypt's role and the initiative it floated on Sudan which aimed at rallying all Sudanese factions to push for realising stability and reconciliation in Sudan.

Egypt under Mubarak has contributed to creating appropriate atmosphere to help Sudanese parties understand the present phase in their country, he said.
