The Palestinian file on top of Gulf states' meetings
Gulf, Politics, 5/15/2002

Gulf sources said that the special meeting of the foreign minister of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states which will be hosted in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) on the Red Sea coast -- not Riyadh as stated before -- will mainly concentrate on the Palestinian file with all its implications and the Israeli aggressions.

The sources added that the same implications had prompted the Saudi foreign ministry to propose convening the meeting which was not debated at the agenda of the Gulf ministerial meeting during this phase especially under the recent developments in the region.

However, the importance of this special meeting, according to the secretary general of the GCC Abdul Rahman Bin Hamad al- Ateyah -- in exclusive statements to the Egyptian al-Ahram daily -- come following the Sharm Esh Sheikh tripartite summit which crystallized the peaceful trend in the coming phase, in light of the Arab peace initiative.
