Syria-Iraq, Politics, 5/15/2002
The London- based al- Hayat daily reported on Tuesday, according to Iraqi sources that the Syrian authorities laid great restriction on the circulation of the Iraqi opposition papers in the Syrian territories and this is in line with the level of relations Damascus and Baghdad have reached since the beginning of rapprochement in 1997 following a cessation that started in 1980.
The paper added that the Baath party regional leadership in Damascus issued a decision that provides for banning the circulation and transport of the Iraqi opposition papers in the Syrian territories, noting that the director general of the Syrian state - run prints distribution establishment Muhammad al-Nasouri told al-Hayat he did not receive any instruction to this effect.
The paper quoted member of the national leadership of the Iraqi Baath Party Fawzi al-Rawi as saying that this decision is in compliance with the developed relations between Syria and Iraq.
