Mubarak, Bashir discuss the Sudanese peace in Cairo tomorrow
Egypt-Sudan, Politics, 5/14/2002

Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak and Sudan's President Omar Hassan al-Bashir discuss tomorrow in Cairo the efforts exerted at the Arab and regional levels to establish peace in Sudan.

The Sudanese ambassador in Cairo Ahmad Abdul Halim told the London- based al-Sharq al-Awsat in its Monday issue that the summit will discuss the efforts made by Egypt and Libya -- the two states sponsoring the peace initiative -- after the Sudanese government had received the report made by the US peace envoy to Sudan. The report highlights the American perception of the political solution of the Sudanese crisis.

The Sudanese official said that the American report has been greatly examined in Khartoum and consultation concerning it will be studied with the two states of the joint initiative on the Sudanese crisis.

The Sudanese ambassador stressed that the Sudanese government is ready to convene a pan national reconciliation conference, adding that the visit of President Bashir to Cairo will discuss all Sudanese- Egyptian files. A joint statement is expected to be issued by the summit.

He considered that the summit between the two presidents is considered as a consolidation to cooperation and integration steps between the two states especially in the economic, cultural and trade areas. A high ranking delegation will accompany Bashir during this visit.
