Moroccan teens expound children parliament experience in New York
Morocco, Politics, 5/13/2002
Two Moroccan teens have been brilliantly taking part in the United Nations special general assembly on children, expounding the Moroccan children parliament experience and echoing concerns of other Moroccan children.
Lina Oudghiri and Youness Meknassi Legraoui, who were among the world children invited to participate in the summit and bring a fresh view to the adults debates, had a remarkable presence as they exchanged views with teens from other parts of the world and Younes even moderated a very serious debate with high ranking officials from the world.
It was a great experience, says Lina, as we were able to voice our worries as children, discuss with other children of the world and debate together."
Young participants in the child forum talked to adults about the need to harmonize national texts with international conventions and held debates within committees to draft a historic declaration.
For the two young Moroccans, children from around the world are first of all concerned about health, education, protection against wars and exploitation and environment preservation.
Challenges in these fields are very acute and require urgent action, says Lina, because children, considered as the future, are also the present.
