Mubarak, Abdullah probe Palestinian situation, int'l issues
Egypt-Saudi Arabia, Politics, 5/11/2002
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak holds Sunday two sessions of talks with Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul-Aziz on the current developments in the Palestinian territories as well as regional and international issues and bilateral relations.
Prince Abdullah, who will start his visit to Egypt on Saturday, is to be accompanied by a Saudi high-level delegation.
Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher on Thursday received his Saudi counterpart Prince Saud Al-Faisal.
Faisal, in statements after the talks, said that he presented Maher a report on the outcome of the visit paid by the Saudi Crown Prince to the US.
The meeting between the two top diplomats came ahead of the summit meeting to be held in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm El-Sheikh between President Mubarak and Prince Abdullah.
Faisal further noted that he briefed Maher on the eight points raised at the US meetings and the difference between them and the Arab peace initiative.
Answering a question on Sharon's calls on Saudi Arabia to stop supporting the so-called Palestinian terrorism, Faisal said that Sharon should first stop his terrorism.
On his part, Maher said that the Egyptian and Saudi viewpoints regarding support for the Palestinian cause are identical.
Maher denied tension in the Egyptian-US relations because Egypt did not respond to US President George W. Bush's calls on Egypt's Saudi Arabia and Jordan to condemn what he called terrorism and suicide operations.
Meanwhile, Egypt's Ambassador in Riyadh Mohammed Rafik Khalil said the Mubarak-Abdullah summit lays on emphatic stress on the continued march of coordination and maintenance of the Arab higher interests.
