Mubarak sends two messages to Bush, Sharon on developments in Palestine
Egypt-USA, Politics, 5/11/2002
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak sent two urgent messages to U.S. President George W. Bush and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon on developments of the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The Egyptian TV quoted an official source Friday as having said that Mubarak urged the American president in his message to immediately intervene to stop the Israeli drive to launch military actions against Gaza Strip.
The president added that the efforts to be exerted, will save the region more escalations and deterioration.
Decision-makers must be wise and rational in all their actions to avoid creating complicated situations that could lead to future serious consequences, the message said.
President Mubarak's message to the Israeli premier stressed that Israel's steps to amass military troops around Gaza will create a very hard and critical situation and set the stage for a vicious circle of violence, killings and destruction that would unleash unpredictable consequences.
The president called on the Israeli premier to recognize the importance that wisdom, rationality and self-restraint should prevail in these circumstances to avoid further deterioration and preserve the lives of both Palestinians and Israelis.
The messages fall within President Mubarak's follow-up and concern over the Israeli military activities in the direction of Gaza and the threats being made by a number of Israeli officials.
Mubarak had several contacts in which he warned of the seriousness of decisions that might put the whole region at stake and shove the peace process into a serious juncture.
