Iraq accuses the US of preventing improved relations with UN

Through its daily al-Thawra ( mouthpiece of the ruling Iraqi Baath party), Iraq on Friday accused the US of working to block the way before any opportunity to correct the relation between Iraq and the UN, noting that is with the aim to continue the sanctions imposed on Iraq.

The paper said that the "actual aim of the campaign promoted by the American political and media machines out of all this is to block the way before any actual chance that might take place to correct this relations, because such an opportunity if it succeeds and the UN will listens to the text of its charter, this will lead to the fall of much of the current false American pretexts to undermining the Iraqi position."

The paper explained that "one who follows up the mechanism of the American policy these days will realize notable American annoyance over the dialogue initiated between Iraq and the UN."

However, dialogue sessions between Iraq and the UN were held on May 1 through 3rd, as the third of its kind since 2001. The second round of dialogue was held in March. A date for a new session will be set for the current month.
