Islamic ministerial conference adopts morocco-proposed global strategy to make islam known
Regional, Religion, 5/10/2002

The 7th conference of the ministers of Waqf (endowments) and Islamic affairs of the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), convening in Kuala Lumpur May 6-9, adopted on Tuesday a Morocco-proposed strategy to make Islam known.

The conference expressed hope that the strategy, in several languages, will contribute to make Islam known as a religion advocating peace, tolerance, coexistence and dialogue, a statement by the Moroccan ministry of habous (endowments) and Islamic affairs said.

The strategy relies on latest technology innovations in matters of information and communication, such as transmissions via satellite, CD-Rom, and internet and provides for the holding of international colloquium in Western countries.

Several languages will be used to circulate this strategy that also stipulates permanent coordination between Islamic countries' ministries of Waqfs and Islamic affairs and Islamic cultural centers, the propagation of Islamic precepts outside Islamic countries, and the consolidation of cooperation and communication with Western media.

The strategy also seeks to unveil the erroneous theses circulated as to a chock of civilizations and to straighten up the false images stuck to Islam.

The Moroccan delegation to the ministerial meeting that was led by minister of habous (endowments) and Islamic affairs, Abdelkebir Alaoui M'Daghri, proposed the compilation of an encyclopedia to stand as an alternative to the Islamic encyclopedia published by the Orientlaists. It also proposed the setting up of a think tank or an observatory within each ministry of Islamic affairs to respond to all anti-Islam allegations and propaganda.
