Syria's President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus on Wednesday received Saudi Arabia's foreign minister Prince Saud al-Faisal. The meeting was attended by the Syrian deputy Premier and foreign minister Farouk al-Shara and the Saudi ambassador in Damascus.
Discussions dealt with the results of talks the Saudi crown prince Abdullah held in Washington. Talks also dealt with means of coordination between the two states concerning latest developments.
Earlier in the day, the Saudi crown prince arrived in Damascus and was welcomed at the airport by al-Shara and the Saudi ambassador.
In an arrival statement to Journalists al-Faisal said: "I have come to Damascus to brief President Bashar al-Assad on the content of the visit held by the Saudi crown prince Abdullah to the USA and evaluating conditions in the region with his excellency in the framework of continued consultations between the two leaderships in the two sisterly countries." The Saudi foreign minister said that the adoption of the recent Beirut's summit to the Saudi peace initiative collectively is considered a positive indicator for a promising united Arab stand.
He added replying to a question on the new peace conference proposed by the US: " As I have said earlier, the content is the most important.. The conference is not the goal, rather the means and therefore the most important is the content."
