Toujan al- Faisal's defendant team give up her case; arrest of al-Shameylah
Jordan, Politics, 5/9/2002
The defendant team for former Jordanian parliament member Toujan al-Faisal who is being tried under charges of undermining the sovereignty of the state decided to pullout from the case following a request made by the chairman of the court Col. Tayel al-Raqqad on disclosing the reasons behind the desire to invite several witnesses including the prime minister Ali Abu al-Rafheb.
Earlier the court decided to give up inviting the prime minister to be presented before the court.
Following that, al-Radeydah announced the withdrawal of the defendant team for Toujan al-Faisal, considering that there is no legal text forcing him to disclose reasons behind the intention to summon witnesses. Al-Radeyadah also said that the decision of the court limits the freedom of defense and violates the law. However, the court refused the pullout the decision and asked the defendant to continue its work and to resume this case next Monday.
On the other hand, the Qatari al-Jazeera TV said on Wednesday that the Jordanian security forces concerned arrested outside the country the businessman Majd al-Shameylah who is accused of being involved in a large financial "Fraud" case against several banks. These cost of the fraud is estimated at 100 million Jordanian Dinars. Al-Jazeera said that al-Shameylah was arrested on its territories and he will be transported to Jordan on board of a military plane to be brought before the court.
