Sharon puts conditions on Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia-Israel, Politics, 5/9/2002
The Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon on Tuesday evening in Washington called on Saudi Arabia to halt its financial support to "terrorists and to families of those who commit suicide (attacks)," and stipulated that Riyadh should suspend financial transfers to these sides so as to be able to be in the proposed peace conference.
In a press conference he held in Washington, Sharon said that transferring the Saudi money to Hamas and to families of the executors of the "suicide operations" should stop.
He also explained that Saudi Arabia's participation in a regional conference is conditioned by suspending these financial transfers.
