On the Jordanian parliamentary elections
Jordan, Politics, 5/9/2002
The media spokesman for the Muslim brothers group in Jordan Yahya Shaqra has expressed the desire of his group to postpone the parliamentary elections in Jordan.
Shaqra, in a press statement he made in Amman on Wednesday justified this desire by giving "priorities at the meantime to support the Palestinian people and protect Jordan." However, the Islamic Labor Front party, the "political arm" of the Muslim brothers was persistent through its secretary general Hamza Mansour not to postpone these elections and to consider that as a violation to the constitution.
While the higher coordination committee of the Jordanian national parties cling to its declared and official position to rejecting any new postponement of the elections and the need of making them as stated in the constitution and as a national demand to reinforce Jordan's might.
